Many recent studies in the field of child development
prove that the period from birth to age three is a critical time in a child’s
development. In response to this fact,
Early Head Start was established by Congress with the reauthorization of
the Head Start Act in
*Promote good health care, mental wellness, safety
awareness, and good nutrition for all family members *Provide opportunities for personal and professional
growth *Educate families about community resources and social
services *To be involved in program activities and the community *Build strong foundations for their families *Promote parents as being the best teacher for their
child *Offer experiences based on the child’s development
and age *Transitions children to appropriate placements, such
as pre-school or day-care facility The program goals are to support parents as they help
their young children grow and develop, and also to provide resources and
