Camp Super Kid

Children's Special Health Care Services - Assists the family of handicapped children to identify and access community assistance, financial, and recreational programs.  Dedicated to enhancing the continuity of care for a child with special health care needs by providing clearly defined comprehensive care coordination services. Boys' and Girls' Clubs- In conjunction with the Diabetes Youth Foundation, camps are held for diabetic children ages 7 to 15 and bicycle camp for ages 14 to19. Also holds two any family camp weekends and an out of state annual teen adventure.  For more information call (317) 750-9310.

Hoosier Uplands Head Start - Half day and full day preschool for children ages 3, 4 and 5 whose family income meets established guidelines. Morning and afternoon sessions available Monday through Thursday during the school year. Breakfast and lunch served to morning session; lunch and afternoon snack served during the afternoon session. 21st Century Community Learning Center Program - After school until 6 p.m.  This program offers tutoring and Enhanced Education opportunities  for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade.  For more information contact Burris School at 849-2509 or Hoosier Uplands at 849-4457.

Community Health & Wellness Center and WIC - Provides well and sick childcare to all ages and both genders. Children can receive immunizations, medications and sick care on a sliding fee scale. Lead screening, well water testing, and developmental screening is also available through MCHC. WIC is a nutrition, education, and food voucher program for children birth to 5 years. No charge for WIC services. Lions Club of Bedford - Provides eyeglass program for school children. Can build ramps for handicapped and elderly. Success & Opportunity at Reading (SOAR!) - is a volunteer non-for-profit organization dedicated to adults who want and need to improve their reading and survival skills.  All services are free and confidential to adult students.  SOAR! Serves adults ages 18 and up.  We have offices in Lawrence, Martin, Orange, and Washington Counties.

Provides assistance with the application process for the CHOICE, Medicaid Waiver and SSBG Programs. These programs offer housekeeping, respite care, home delivered meals and transportation to persons at risk of nursing home placement. Hospice provides supportive care for the terminally ill and their families, primarily in the private home or hospital skilled nursing facility.  Physical care helps control pain and symptoms affecting the quality of life for those facing incurable illness. Medical Social Services help the client cope with social, emotional and financial upheaval. A spiritual counselor is available to address spiritual needs and concerns. Volunteers offer support as "good neighbors" who are willing to sit with someone, run errands or provide a listening ear. HUD Housing Counseling

Provides budget counseling, and foreclosure intervention.  Section 8 Program assists low-income tenants with acquiring and paying for housing.  Tenants pay 40% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities and the program pays the remainder to the landlord.  applications and recertifications. Midtown Suites Apartments - Has four, one bedroom apartments, recently remodeled and very affordable to income eligible persons.  These units were created out of the rehabilitation of the property located at 122 North 6th Street in Mitchell.  For more information, call (812) 849-4457.

Persimmon Park Apartments - Located at 406 Wade Street in Mitchell, this is a 56 unit complex with two bedroom apartments situated in the heart of Mitchell.  We have a common laundry facility and are currently remodeling to bring our complex up to date for you complete with a playground and basketball court.  Subsidized apartments are available for income eligible persons.  For more information call Stacy Philpott at 849-4639.

Hospice provides supportive care for the terminally ill and their families, primarily in the home. Physical care helps control pain and symptoms affecting the quality of life for those facing incurable illness. Medical Social Services help clients cope with social, emotional and financial upheaval. A spiritual counselor is available to address spiritual needs and concerns. Volunteers offer support as "good neighbors" who are willing to sit with someone, run errands or provide a listening ear.
