Success & Opportunity At Reading (SOAR!) - Is a volunteer not-for-profit organization dedicated to adult family literacy who want and need to improve their reading and survival skills.  All services are free and confidential to adult students.  SOAR! serves adults age 18 and up.  We have offices in Lawrence, Martin, Orange, and Washington Counties.  SOAR offers:  adult literacy, family literacy, reading to get drivers license, voter's registration literacy, reading and filling out applications, kitchen and household literacy, and Pre-GED literacy.

Hoosier Uplands/Area 15 Agency on Aging - Provides assistance with the application process for the CHOICE, Medicaid Waiver and SSBG programs. These programs offer housekeeping, respite care, home delivered meals and transportation to persons at risk of nursing home placement. Pre-Admission Screening (PAS) assist with placement of an individual in a nursing home or suitable facility when that individual is no longer able to remain in their home safely. American Academy of Opthamology National Eye Care Project - Makes referrals for persons 65 or older living on fixed incomes to participating doctors who provide medical eye exams and treatment for conditions or diseases and who accept insurance assignment. American Cancer Society - Reach to recovery (mastectomy) breast cancer program available locally, as well as educational materials. Hoosier Uplands Hospice - Hospice provides supportive care for the terminally ill and their families, primarily in the home or hospital skilled nursing facility.  Physical care helps control pain and symptoms affecting the quality of life for those facing incurable illness.  Medical Social Services help clients cope with social, emotional and financial upheaval. A spiritual counselor is available to address spiritual needs and concerns. Volunteers offer support as "good neighbors" who are willing to sit with someone, run errands or provide a listening ear. Orange County Department of Family & Children - Medicaid program provides payment for medical, dental and eye care, prescription drugs, medical transportation and hospitalization. Hoosier Uplands - Administers the Head Start Preschool Program for low-income children; Economic Development to foster improved living standards; weatherization, energy conservation measures provided in individual homes; Pre-Admission Screening to prevent inappropriate nursing home placement, respite care to provide relief to an unpaid caregiver; homemaker services to those unable to maintain their homes; in-home services to prevent premature institutionalization; Budget Counseling and Family Services, families who are highly motivated to become self-sufficient. Hoosier Uplands Hospice - Hospice provides supportive care for the terminally ill and their families, primarily in the home. Physical care helps control pain and symptoms affecting the quality of life for those facing incurable illness. Medical Social Services help clients cope with social, emotional and financial upheaval. A spiritual counselor is available to address spiritual needs and concerns. Volunteer offer support as "good neighbors" who are willing to sit with someone, run errands or provide a listening ear.
