  • Weatherization
Weatherization is funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Each state has an agency designated as the administrator of the funds. In Indiana, the Division of Family and Children Services is that designated agency. This agency delegates Community Action Agencies to implement the program on the local level.

The purpose of the Weatherization Program is to conserve energy and reduce the impact of rising energy costs on low-income persons, particularly the elderly and disabled. This is accomplished through the installation of energy saving measures and by instructing household members about practices they can implement to reduce energy consumption.

Both homeowners and renters may apply. Typically energy consumption is reduced by 25 to 50 percent in homes which are weatherized, and in addition to savings the weatherization provides more comfort for the occupants.
